Reliability of Buried Pipes in Heterogeneous Soil Subjected to Seismic Loads

چکیده

Dysfunctions and failures of buried pipe networks, like sewer are studied in this paper from the point view structural reliability heterogeneity geotechnical conditions longitudinal direction. Combined soil spatial variability Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) induce stresses displacements. A model has been developed within frame geostatistics a mechanical description soil–structure interaction set pipes with connections resting on by two-parameter (Pasternak model). Structural analysis is performed considering two limit states: Serviceability Limit State (SLS), related to large "counter slope" given pipe, Ultimate (ULS), corresponding bending moment.

Soil-Structure Interaction of Buried Pipes Under Cyclic Loading Conditions

The safety of lifelines, as the most important urban facilities, under different conditions highly depends on the safe design and performance of these buried structures. This cannot be achieved unless their actual behaviors are well understood and considered at the designing stage. A new physical model was developed in Amirkabir University of Technology to study the behavior of buried pipes und...

A Continuum Shell-beam Finite Element Modeling of Buried Pipes with 90-degree Elbow Subjected to Earthquake Excitations

In the current work, the seismic analysis of bent region in buried pipes is performed, and effects of soil properties and modeling methods on pipe’s response are investigated. To do this task Beam, Beam-Shell Finite Element modeling and a Continuum shell FE models of a 90 degrees elbow are employed. In the Beam model, the pipe is simulated by beam elements while combined shell-beam elements a...

Evaluation of Seismic Protection Methods for Buried Fuel Pipelines Subjected to Fault Rupture

Buried steel fuel pipelines are critical lifelines for the society and the economy but are very vulnerable to earthquake-induced ground failure. Traversing seismic areas inevitably results in several pipe-fault crossings. Fault rupture forces a buried pipeline to undergo deformations that could be substantial and heavily endanger its integrity. Due to the grave consequences of a potential pipe ...

Sensitivity analysis of pile-founded fixed steel jacket platforms subjected to seismic loads

The sensitivity of the seismic response parameters to the uncertain modeling variables of pile-founded fixed steel jacket platforms are investigated using the Tornado diagram and the first-order second-moment techniques. The effects of both aleatory and epistemic uncertainty on seismic response parameters have been investigated for an existing offshore platform. The sources of uncertainty consi...

Behavior of Steel-Sheathed Shear Walls Subjected to Seismic and Fire Loads.

A series of tests was conducted on six 2.7 m × 3.7 m shear wall specimens consisting of cold-formed steel framing sheathed on one side with sheet steel adhered to gypsum board and on the opposite side with plain gypsum board. The specimens were subjected to various sequences of simulated seismic shear deformation and fire exposure to study the influence of multi-hazard interactions on the later...
